An overview of all CryoSat-2 data products, that have been provided by the individual data centres for the SIMRE exercise, is given in Data and Metadata Descryption Document (D2.2). The source code for parsing the different input files for both orbit and regional data sets is available via the pysimre python software module (https://github.com/shendric/pysimre). In addition to the Cryosat-2 data, the project used validation data based on data from the ESA CryoVal-SI project. The reconciled thickness estimate is based on the ensemble mean of 4 different CryoSat-2 sea ice thickness sources:
- UCL/CPOM
- AWI
- JPL
- ESA CCI Climate Data Record
The airborne validation data set consists of thickness measurements from:
- Airborne Electro-Magnetic (AEM) induction soundings collected during CryoSat Validation Experiments (CryoVEx) from years between 2011 and 2012
- Estimated sea ice thickness from airborne laser freeboard and radar snow depth collected from the NASA Operation IceBridge (OIB) program.
Both validation datasets are collocated with CryoSat-2 acquisition in space and time and were gridded into the same ensemble location as the CryoSat-2 SIMRE data.
